Given the broad public resonance over the criminal case involving bribery by a group of Gyumri community officials and abuse of office, the RA Anti-Corruption Committee reports that motions have been filed with the court to request pretrial detention for five out of the eight detainees, as noted in a statement issued by the RA Anti-Corruption Committee.
The head of the community has been sentenced to pretrial detention, one of the bribe-givers is under house arrest, and investigation are ongoing for the others. Decisions have also been made to remove the officials from their positions. The Committee is also examining whether the published recordings involving Vardan Ghukasyan are fake. "Regarding media allegations that the published recordings featuring the head of the Gyumri community are fake and do not relate to him, the Anti-Corruption Committee deems it necessary to clarify that the head of the Gyumri community neither denied nor confirmed the fact of the conversation in his testimony. Furthermore, he provided no information about falsifying or altering his voice in the recordings, but offered his own explanations and comments regarding the conversation. Additionally, several individuals questioned as part of the criminal proceedings have confessed, confirming the accuracy of the factual data obtained through operational and investigative operations. The criminal investigation is ongoing," the statement reads.
