Producer: Events in Gyumri are nothing more than spreading fear among   residents

ArmInfo. Most of Gyumri's residents were detained after the arrest of Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan had already been completed. Producer Ruben Mkhitaryan, head  of the "My Powerful Community" faction of the Gyumri Council of Elders, told journalists on October. 

According to him, many people have been detained, including Ruben  Mkhitaryan, a representative of the "In Our Way" movement. The  producer noted that everything happening in the city,  is  nothing  more than spreading fear among Gyumri's residents, an attempt to  emotionally break them and intimidate them. It's essentially a police  state. "We've been discussing the authorities' claims for seven years  now. If this were a simple case of bribery, they could have summoned  Ghukasyan. This entire theatrical performance is aimed at achieving  only one goal: to intimidate Gyumri residents, including by bringing  17- and 18-year-old boys to the Kumari police station. However, the  authorities must realize one thing: it's impossible to intimidate  Gyumri residents," Ruben Mkhitaryan said.

He added that the authorities are making every effort to ensure an  advantage for their representatives, especially on the eve of the  elections to the Council of Elders of the enlarged Vagharshapat  community.  Mkhitaryan pointed out that such a development could  result in an internal implosion, which terrifies the authorities. For  them, elections are the best way to retain power, and all available  administrative and financial resources will be used to achieve this  goal.
