ArmInfo. Suren Surenyants, leader of the Democratic Alternative Party, denounced the criminal case against opposition Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan as a politically motivated stunt.
"The criminal case against Vardan Ghukasyan not only lacks legal validity, but is also a blatant political maneuver: it followed Pashinyan's public statement about the need to 'kick him out' of the political scene. The problem here isn't Ghukasyan's personality," Surenyants asserts.
According to him, the problem runs deeper: ahead of the parliamentary elections, the government is deliberately devaluing the institution of elections, clearly demonstrating to society that the elections are no longer a realistic path to change. "Pashinyan is shutting the door to peaceful and institutionalized political change, which will inevitably result in public resistance, mass disobedience, and potential unrest," the politician concluded.
