
ArmInfo. Eight individuals have been arrested on charges of accepting a particularly large bribe and bribing Gyumri community officials, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.
According to the source, evidence obtained through large-scale operational and investigative measures, revealed that the head of the Gyumri community and the chief architect were engaged in bribery. As part of the criminal case, decisions have been made to initiate public prosecution and detain eight individuals, including the head of the community.
During the criminal proceedings, factual evidence was obtained indicating that the criminal group's members, deliberately targeted members of the Gyumri Community Council they disliked, with the aim of collecting various information about them and establishing control through blackmail to ensure the secrecy and continuity of their corrupt activities. Additionally, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, factual evidence was obtained indicating that the head of the community, taking advantage of his official position, actually initiated the process of creating false grounds for the privatization of a plot of land he was using and owned by the community forging official documents to legitimize an illegally constructed building owned by his close relative. Furthermore, during the investigation, factual evidence was obtained indicating that the chief architect accepted bribes from a number of citizens in six other cases for committing illegal actions.
Extensive operational, investigative and evidentiary measures continue to be carried out within the criminal proceedings to fully uncover the structure and mechanisms of the corruption scheme, as well as to identify the full range of persons involved in the criminal network.
