ArmInfo.A Yerevan court has placed Naira Alaverdyan, chief accountant of the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, under house arrest for two months. This was reported on social media by lawyer Marine Farmanyan.
According to her, the court has thus granted the investigators' motion requesting Alaverdyan's arrest. The lawyer added that the defense plans to appeal the court's decision.
As a reminder, the court previously arrested Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, head of the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and Priest Garegin Arsenyan, head of the diocese's chancery. The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that criminal cases have been opened against three representatives of the diocese. The Mother See of Etchmiadzin condemned the detention of priests of the Aragatsotn Diocese and called it an attempt by the authorities to discredit the Church.
