ArmInfo. Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party, demanded that the government's decision to remove the image of Mount Ararat from border crossing stamps be invalidated. The politician wrote this on his Facebook account.
"On October 16, 2025, I filed a petition with the RA Administrative Court demanding that paragraph 4 of Part 1 of the RA Government Resolution of September 11, 2025, which decided to exclude the image of Mount Ararat from stamps issued for crossing the state border of Armenia effective November 1, 2025, be declared invalid. The petition is based on a number of constitutional and legal provisions, according to which the contested decision contradicts Articles 21, 23, and 56 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, as well as Article 2 of the Law of the Republic of Armenia 'On the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Armenia.' In my opinion, Mount Ararat is not only the state symbol of the Republic of Armenia, but also a fundamental element of the national-ethnic identity of the Armenian people, and its exclusion from state symbolic use is a step against that identity," Marukyan said.
He noted that this government decision violates the rights of citizens of the Republic of Armenia to preserve their identity and dignity, as guaranteed by the Constitution. It also contradicts the value system formed by public consensus regarding state symbols.
"The justifications given by the Prime Minister, the Secretary of the Security Council, and the members of the Civil Contract faction regarding the decision to remove the image of Mount Ararat legitimize approaches that are unconstitutional and undermine public trust in state symbols. I petitioned the court to suspend the contested decision until a final ruling is issued on the case, noting that its application would lead to irreversible consequences not only for me but also for society," the politician wrote.
