ArmInfo.Alexander Kochubaev, renowned lawyer and head of the Contra Legem law firm, has been detained in Yerevan. The lawyer was detained by security forces after leaving the Shengavit Court, where a hearing took place in the case of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and 17 others accused by the authorities.
Law enforcement agencies have not released any information about his detention. However, his colleagues believe that the reason for the harsh arrest, intended to exert psychological pressure on the legal community supporting representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church, could have been his posts on social media, where he made uncensored remarks about the law enforcement system and the Armenian authorities. "Investigators, prosecutors, judges, who have sold their souls to the devil, your punishment will be from heaven." "I pray to God not to forgive you, and you will atone for your guilt for generations," the lawyer shared his emotions after yet another violent raid on representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church. "I was also an officer, and giving up my epaulettes was the hardest decision of my life. But you can support a family through honest work, not by swindling your salary," he wrote.
The lawyer also added a couple of obscene expressions, but according to his colleagues expressing their opinion on the incident, none of them qualifies as a non-personalized insult under the Criminal Code.
Apparently, these statements have deeply offended his former colleagues, as Kochubayev had a long history of working in the police system, and those who are ready to imprison the entire leadership of the Armenian Apostolic Church for political reasons.
