ArmInfo. In Armenia, perpetrators of domestic violence can face up to one year in prison for refusing to wear electronic bracelets. At its October 16 meeting, the RA National Assembly Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs approved the government-submitted amendments to the Law "On the Prevention of Domestic and Domestic Violence and the Protection of Persons Subjected to Domestic and Domestic Violence" and related legislation.
According to RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, bracelets with a GPS module allow for the location tracking of individuals who have previously committed certain offenses. This includes individuals who have been temporarily banned from communicating with family members by court order. However, in this case, the law did not stipulate that perpetrators are required to wear them. The proposed draft recommends introducing this requirement. The penalty for violating this requirement will be up to one year of imprisonment. The bill is proposed to come into effect on March 1, 2026. The delay is due to the need to purchase operational data management systems.
