ArmInfo. All accusations against the "In Our Way" movement regarding their connections to "former" figures do not hold water. Narek Karapetyan, nephew of arrested businessman Samvel Karapetyan, told journalists outside the Anti-Corruption Court on October 15.
"I don't want to repeat myself, but take a look at the election list of the ruling Civil Contract party. Right after the prime minister, there's a former representative of the Republican Party, and second or third is a former representative of the Prosperous Armenia Party. They'd better focus on their own past instead of trying to dig up something from our clean history," Karapetyan Jr said. In response to a question about the alleged distribution of 40,000 drams to citizens for participating in the movement's rallies and marches, Narek Karapetyan pointed out that it was obvious the authorities should have done something. "They posted some screenshots they had created themselves, and it all looks very frivolous. Unlike the 'former' authorities, the current ones have gained a wealth of experience in labeling. But they can be assured; we have not done anything like that and will not do so. People come here of their own free will," Karapetyan emphasized, not ruling out the possibility of government insiders.
Karapetyan noted that there have been responses from international organizations regarding the trial against Samvel Karapetyan. Specifically, the European Commission has stated that it is closely monitoring the process, but the reaction of the country's public is far more important. The authorities are doing everything possible to minimize this reaction and quell any pockets of resistance. "But that won't happen," said one of the movement's leaders, adding that they receive interview requests from foreign media almost weekly. "If we don't say 'no' to this process, similar incidents like the recent detention of eight clergy on unclear charges may occur. If you recall, they constantly claimed they were fighting against the person of the Catholicos, but now it turns out something completely different: actually, they are targeting the Church. Let them keep these fairy tales about fighting against the Catholicos to themselves. Dear compatriots, don't believe their fairy tales," Narek Karapetyan emphasized.
