ArmInfo.Numerous people have gathered in the courtyard of the Anti-Corruption Court to show their support for the well-known businessman Samvel Karapetyan.
The court hearing, which began at 6:00 PM, is to consider the Investigative Committee's motion to extend Karapetyan's arrest for another two months. Those gathered are chanting "Freedom!" and "Fight in our way."
In an interview with journalists, Narek Karapetyan, the businessman's nephew and coordinator of the "Our Way" (Mer Dzevov) movement, noted that the authorities will do everything possible to extend Samvel Karapetyan's arrest for another two months. "They talk a lot about not being concerned about Samvel Karapetyan's movement, so why are they trying so hard to prolong his arrest?" he asked.
At the same time, the Movement's coordinator announced a large rally and large-scale actions. He pointed out that these actions would demonstrate that arrests cannot suppress the wave of discontent, which is only growing, as well as the sense of injustice. Karapetyan noted that the authorities are already trying to direct villagers, urging them not to meet with representatives of the "Our Way" movement. "By these actions, they discredit themselves in the eyes of our compatriots who live in the villages," he noted.
Touching on Samvel Karapetyan's statement about supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church and fighting "Our Way," he noted that the latter was not accidental, but a consequence of all the government's recent actions. When asked by journalists when the street fighting would begin, Narek Kararpetyan said that they would only resort to such a method once they had exhausted all constitutional instruments.
