ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are attempting to neutralize justified public discontent not with substantive political steps, but with the use of force, aggressive rhetoric, and counter-propaganda tools.
Political analyst Tigran Dumikyan responded to the aggressive and offensive statements made by Taron Chakhoyan, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of Armenia, against Narek Karapetyan, coordinator of the "Our Way" movement. He also emphasized that Karapetyan in no way gave grounds for such behavior.
"However, despite this, government officials continue to demonstrate intolerance toward their opponents. Both Taron Chakhoyan and other representatives of the ruling regime, including pro-government media outlets, regularly make offensive statements against businessman and head of the Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan, his nephew Narek Karapetyan, and the movement as a whole," Dumikyan noted.
At the same time, he expressed his belief that the problem is more systemic, as all these actions are carried out with the approval of the country's top leadership, including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The latter, the analyst recalled, has repeatedly used disrespectful and offensive statements toward his opponents, effectively normalizing such behavior.
Dumikyan noted that all of this can be seen as a tool of self-defense used by the authorities to mask internal mistrust and governance failures. Meanwhile, according to him, government statistics indicate a noticeable deterioration in the country's socioeconomic indicators, from rising levels of extreme poverty to declining foreign investment. "At the same time, the country's public and external debt has increased from $6 billion to approximately $14 billion. And the serious problems recorded in defense, security, and foreign policy are beyond words," the expert added.
Meanwhile, he noted that the authorities' long-standing dichotomy of "black and white" has exacerbated social polarization and weakened state institutions. Dumikyan is confident that if this policy is not curbed, it will threaten the stability and development prospects of Armenia's already vulnerable statehood.
Regarding solutions to this situation, the analyst emphasized the need for society to develop a clear and principled attitude that rejects hate speech, divisive policies, and destructive approaches to state priorities. "Only then will it be possible to restore an atmosphere of mutual respect, responsibility, and political maturity in our country," Dumikyan concluded.
It's worth noting that Chakhoyan responded to the publication regarding his debts on his Facebook page. He wrote, in part: "The arrogant residents of Kaluga are ignorant in their own way, spreading lies without being able to 'read' numbers. Tell these infantile ignoramuses that I don't need such fakes, and like them, I haven't received millions from the state."
