ArmInfo. Armenia is undergoing a sham process of joining the European Union. Second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan shares this view.
Speaking at a press conference on October 7, he noted that the sham nature of the process is evidenced by the clear EU regulations outlining the conditions and opportunities for joining this structure. Moreover, the former president continued, a new department for European integration was created within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia the day before. "It's a very interesting situation: there's no integration, but there is a department. Against this backdrop, the authorities' behavior seems strange when, amidst this sham European approach, they're attempting to separate from Russia. Why they're doing this is beyond me. When you see heads of state in the White House waiting for the end of negotiations with Trump to try to meet with him, you can't help but conclude that there's a European crisis, especially when you recall the names of Helmut Kohl, Jacques Chirac, and other politicians," Robert Kocharyan noted.
He added that Armenia must have the courage to advance its national interests. At the same time, there's no need to fear Trump's reaction to possible criticism from Yerevan. The American leader will then respect Armenia even more. "Our people are going to the White House in diapers, and I imagine they're still waiting for a ton of diapers outside the White House," the former president remarked.
