ArmInfo. While Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assures the Armenian people that the so-called "Zangezur Corridor" is no longer a topic, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues to promote Azerbaijani narratives. This was stated by Artur Khachatryan, a National Assembly member from the opposition "Armenia" faction, at a briefing with journalists.
In this vein, the MP noted that not only Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, but also US President Donald Trump, now refers to Armenian territory as a "corridor" in his statements. He expressed outrage that the Armenian prime minister repeatedly presents the agreement signed in Washington as an achievement by the authorities to establish peace in the region.
Touching on the issue of unblocking communications in this context, Khachatryan noted that the "Crossroads of Peace" project presented by the Armenian government contradicts the agreement reached in Washington, in particular the logic of Trump's route, which, in essence, does not lift Armenia out of isolation. The opposition leader expressed his conviction that the authorities are once again misleading the Armenian population, convincing them that the ruling regime has achieved peace.
"Meanwhile, we have repeatedly encountered situations where the Prime Minister's statements have not coincided with the views and statements of the President of Azerbaijan. In this context, the haste with which the agreement was reached in Washington is completely illogical," Khachatryan emphasized.
In particular, he noted that the Armenian authorities conceded on the issue of unimpeded travel along the road and instead agreed to the formulation "mutual benefit in the event of its opening."
In this regard, Khachatryan recalled that back in 2021, Pashinyan proposed handing over the road to the American and Azerbaijani sides for use, justifying this position by citing the possibility of financial gain. "That's what the phrase 'mutual benefit' means for the Armenian side," Khachatryan explained.
As a reminder, the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project is a 42-kilometer road in southern Armenia that will hand over its management to the United States for 99 years. Experts believe this could significantly change the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus.
