based on the recognition of the need to end the past conflict and establish good-neighborly relations between peoples; expresses its support for the joint statement adopted following the trilateral meeting between US President Donald Trump, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as noted stated in a statement issued by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Hayk Konjoryan, leader of the Civil Contract faction in the National Assembly, read the draft statement during an extraordinary session of parliament on October 2.
According to the statement, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia welcomes the signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It values the agreement reached that the opening of communications between the two states will be based on respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of each state, with the aim of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and adjacent territories. "These efforts will include unimpeded communication between the mainland of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, with reciprocal benefits for the Republic of Armenia from both international and domestic travel.
The statement highlights that Armenia will work with the United States and mutually determined third parties, to set forth a framework for the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) connectivity project in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. It also expresses gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his significant contribution in establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In the statement, the National Assembly reaffirms that, following a conflict that caused unbearable human suffering, conditions have been created for the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan to establish good- neighborly relations.
The National Assembly also emphasizes that the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan opens new opportunities for economic prosperity and progress, that the institutionalization of peace serves Armenia's vital interests, and that efforts must be made to further strengthen the established peace, reads the draft statement.
"The National Assembly calls on the public, political, expert, academic, and cultural circles of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan to refrain from rhetoric and actions that symbolize the conflict and/or seek to reframe or inflame it, in order to ensure the durability and reliability of the established peace for the prosperity of the South Caucasus," reads the statement proposed by the parliament majority. The draft statement was adopted with 64 votes in favor and 2 abstentions. None of the two opposition factions participated in the vote.
