ArmInfo. Starting January 1, 2026, applications and reservations for obtaining or renouncing Armenian citizenship will be processed exclusively through the new electronic citizenship case processing system.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that this will be done to avoid potential backlogs in the registration system.
Registration, creation, editing, and submission of preliminary applications for obtaining or renouncing citizenship will be available at https://mcs-citizenship.am.
Regarding the registration process, the ministry reported that at a certain stage of the administration, applicants will be required to make a one-time visit to the Office of the Migration and Citizenship Service for physical identification and verification of original documents. It is also noted that reservations for an appointment with the Migration and Citizenship Service will be possible no earlier than January 22, 2026.
"Armenian citizens will be registered in the new system exclusively through the Esem national identification platform, which will require an identification card and an mID electronic digital signature. Foreign citizens, refugees, and stateless persons will be registered optionally through strong identification or email authentication. To do this, they will be required to attach a photocopy of their travel document," the Ministry explained.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also noted that after submitting a preliminary application, a state fee must be paid no later than 10 days before the selected visit date. Failure to pay, according to the source, will result in the cancellation of the booked visit. "On the day of the visit, applicants must submit the original documents specified in the application and, depending on the type of application, take a test on their knowledge of the Armenian language and the Constitution of Armenia," the ministry concluded.
