ArmInfo.Doctor of Law, Professor Gevork Danielyan warns of the possibility of using fake passports in Armenia.
"Three days ago, tens of thousands of counterfeit passports and other documents were discovered at the Georgian-Turkish border checkpoint. According to official Georgian websites, they were smuggled into Georgia in construction material crates. The high quality of the documents astonished even experts: they are undetectable by the equipment installed at border checkpoints. Interpol and NATO have been brought in to assist with the investigation. In response, the Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs announced the neutralization of the possible threat of mass illegal immigration or sabotage. Incidentally, the circulation of counterfeit documents in this country sometimes reaches such a scale that authorities declare amnesties for counterfeiters in order to remove at least some of them from circulation. However, as the aforementioned revelations demonstrate, this gap is quickly being filled by Turkish imports," the professor noted on his Facebook page.
He expressed concern about the large number of Armenian names found in the counterfeit documents. "Firstly, this is only one identified case. We don't know the true scale. Finally, such highly professional counterfeit passports can be used without hindrance in any sphere, not only in private transactions but also in public processes, including elections," Gevork Danielyan emphasized.
