


ArmInfo. A Yerevan court has lifted the travel ban imposed on Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia.
Furthermore, the court also lifted his partial house arrest. Ashotyan's lawyer, Ruben Melikyan, filed a petition to lift the travel ban. Melikyan reported that his client received an invitation from the European People's Party (EPP) to attend the opening ceremony of the EPP conference, which will take place on October 2-3. Furthermore, the defense petitioned to lift the administrative restriction requiring the politician to remain at home from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, which has also been lifted. However, Ashotyan is required to obtain court approval for each trip abroad.
On November 16, 2022, Ashotyan was charged with abuse of office and money laundering in connection with the case concerning the acquisition of real estate for Yerevan State Medical University. On June 16, 2023, he was arrested for violating his pretrial detention order. On September 10, the trial court changed Ashotyan's pretrial detention order to house arrest.
In a conversation with reporters, Ruben Melikyan described today's court ruling as a step forward. He emphasized the effectiveness of today's court hearing.
