By decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Athina Geronikaki, a professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Doctor of Chemical Sciences, has been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
According to a statement from the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the scientist has made a significant contribution to the scientific research of the Scientific and Technical Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Professor Geronikaki's research interests include the development, synthesis, and study of the biological properties of new biologically active (antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory) heterocyclic compounds.
A group of scientists led by Professor Geronikaki conducted a number of biological studies of the compounds. The scientist played a key role in the design and editing of the articles, bringing them into compliance with international standards. The first joint paper was published in 2013 in the journal Tetrahedron, and currently, four dozen papers have been co-published in high-impact international journals.
Professor Geronikaki has authored over 220 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and 10 undergraduate textbooks. She has organized numerous international conferences, including Computational Methods in Toxicology and Pharmacology (2003, 2015, 2019), the 3rd Eurasian Meeting on Heterocyclic Chemistry (2006), the 17th Greek Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (2017), MedChem (2023), and others. She has received a number of international awards and diplomas for her scientific work.
