ArmInfo.Lawyer Natalya Chernikova, representing Boris Avagyan, a former Rosreestr official, former special envoy of the Nagorno-Karabakh president, and former deputy director of the State Emergency Service of the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs, told RT that she does not believe he committed suicide.
She emphasized that his character speaks in favor of this - he is a fighter who doesn't like to lose, and a man of faith.
"He knows perfectly well what suicide is. He's quite an intelligent person; he considers the consequences beyond any given event. I don't think he somehow didn't consider it," the lawyer noted.
Meanwhile, RIA Novosti reports, citing the country's emergency services, that a knife was found near the body of former official Boris Avagyan, who "committed suicide" at the Armenian consulate in St. Petersburg. "Investigators from the Investigative Committee are working at the Armenian Consulate in St. Petersburg, where former official Boris Avakyan died," law enforcement officials reported.
A preliminary source reported that Avakyan committed suicide. On Tuesday, he fled the Kronstadt District Court, where a pretrial detention measure was being determined for him in a case involving evasion of customs duties totaling over 4.2 billion rubles. The case against Avakyan and several others has been under trial since April 2024. A total of 21 people are involved.
Armenian media outlets circulated a video overnight in which Avakyan stated that he was at the Armenian Consulate General in St. Petersburg and demanding his deportation to Armenia. He stated that he had been wanted by Armenian law enforcement since 2022 for illegal border crossing and money laundering. Avagyan reported that he went to the consulate and asked to surrender himself and arrange for his deportation to Armenia, where he is a citizen. However, he claims the Armenian consulate told him it was impossible to process his deportation and that he would be handed over to Russian law enforcement.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry was unable to confirm the veracity of the information regarding Avagyan's death.
