


ArmInfo. During his working visit to New York, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with his Iraqi counterpart, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, to discuss bilateral relations.
According to the press service of the Armenian President, the parties emphasized the need to strengthen political dialogue and practical cooperation based on mutual interests. Khachaturyan and Rashid also noted the importance of expanding bilateral economic cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly trade and investment.
In this context, the need to introduce direct Yerevan-Baghdad flights was emphasized as an important tool for promoting political, economic, and tourism ties. During the meeting, the parties noted the importance of further developing cooperation between the two countries in education. In this regard, Khachaturyan emphasized that the opening of a branch of the Ecole Hotelier de Lausanne in Gyumri could also be a good opportunity for Iraqi students, which would stimulate the activation of student exchange programs.
The interlocutors further commended the recent Armenian-Iraqi business forum and emphasized the importance of continuously promoting such initiatives. Khachaturyan and Rashid also touched upon regional developments and the general situation. The parties emphasized the importance of the work being carried out to establish a lasting and sustainable peace following the initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington. The prospects for implementing the government's Crossroads of Peace program were emphasized.
