ArmInfo. Armenian authorities persistently mislead the public by claiming that the bilateral joint declaration signed in Washington between Aliyev and Pashinyan will end the blockade of Armenia. Artur Khachatryan, a parliament member from the opposition "Armenia" faction, wrote on his Facebook page.
"Firstly, this document clearly states that Azerbaijan receives unimpeded passage through Syunik, but there is no clear formulation of what Armenia receives in return. It only mentions some kind of vague 'mutual benefit.' Let me remind you that several years ago, Nikol Pashinyan offered Azerbaijan and Turkey a corridor in exchange for money, forgetting to demand the lifting of the blockade on Armenia. I do not rule out that his memory has failed him again this time. The authorities also claim that allowing passage through Nakhichevan will break the blockade of Armenia. Seriously? To truly break the blockade of Armenia, Armenia must gain access to the outside world through Turkey and Azerbaijan. Turkey must open all the roads it has closed since 1993. Particularly, I am talking about the Gyumri-Kars railway. As of now, Turkey has not announced such plans. Turkey and Azerbaijan are building the Kars-Igdir-Aralyk-Diluju line (Diluju is a border crossing in Nakhichevan). This will neither warm nor cool Armenia. No sane person can imagine that someone would deliver their goods from Yerevan to Meghri, and from there take a train to Turkey via Nakhichevan. You might say, "Why from Meghri? Let them enter Nakhichevan from Yeraskh; it's only 60 km from Yerevan to Yeraskh."
Dear friends, Azerbaijan has not declared its readiness to repair or operate the Sadarak-Yeraskh section. He has said nothing of the sort. Back in January, in an interview with the Armenpress news agency, Pashinyan stated: "We have made a very specific proposal to Azerbaijan to open the Yeraskh-Sadarak-Ordubad- Meghri-Zangelan railway. This is more than a proposal; it's a concrete solution to specific issues, and we are waiting a positive response from Azerbaijan, after which the agreement will be enshrined in paper, and we will begin construction on our sections of the railway. Oh yes, and Azerbaijan gave a concrete response. I'll say more. The Armenian authorities had already proposed to Azerbaijan the opening of three border crossings in 2022: Sotk-Karvachar, Karahunj-Eyvazli, and Yeraskh-Sadarak. They even circulated a draft government resolution on the matter. The Azerbaijanis categorically rejected this proposal at the time, demanding a corridor through Meghri. Official Yerevan has chosen to move past this rejection. And what were they so happy about? They couldn't have said they voluntarily provided the corridor, otherwise Aliyev would have been furious. They have an unrivaled talent for deceiving the people and passing off defeat as victory. By the way, why aren't they talking about the Ijevan-Gazakh line? After all, our main export market is in the north. Why was the demand to unblock all roads completely forgotten? All of them, not just Meghri. Why? Azerbaijan doesn't... allow it, and independent rulers, with Azerbaijan's permission, only have the right to make omelets with New Year's firecrackers," Khachatryan noted.
