
ArmInfo. On September 20, during a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Martha Kos, Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan praised the close cooperation with the European Union, which, she said, is constantly evolving and expanding into new areas.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, speaking about the visa liberalization process with the EU, Sargsyan, the chief negotiator for the Armenian side, noted the work of the EU missions visiting Armenia, which had a positive impact on the process. She also presented details of the implementation of the biometric system, as well as steps taken by the Armenian government in the areas of border management, reintegration of displaced persons, and migration policy.
The head of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs also expressed gratitude for the approval of the AEGIS program, which plans to invest approximately ?4.5 million in the modernization of the Rescue Service and the Police. Commissioner Kos particularly highlighted the reforms being implemented in Armenia's internal affairs system, emphasizing the EU's continued support for their implementation. She noted that the EU has allocated over EUR 200 million for these reforms. Among other areas, support will also include visa liberalization with the EU, a key pillar of Armenia-EU cooperation. The Commissioner praised the Ministry of Internal Affairs' coordinating role in the visa liberalization dialogue, noting that the action plan is nearing completion.
During the meeting, the progress of reforms being implemented in a number of areas, the coordination of the financial and operational components of the Sustainability and Development Plan, and other issues of mutual interest were discussed.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue and expand cooperation and to work together on visa liberalization with the EU.
