ArmInfo. The Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) must return to a pro-state orientation, which is impossible without liberating the Catholicosate from Ktrich Nersisyan (the secular name of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II - ed.). Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this while speaking at the 7th Congress of the ruling Civil Contract Party.
According to him, this agenda must be implemented. This is not only a moral issue, but also a matter of national security.
Pashinyan recalled that the Armenian Apostolic Church was founded in 301 as a state institution. From its inception, it was supposed to operate within the logic of statehood. However, in the absence of statehood, it transformed into an imperial institution, defending the interests of the Armenian people within the imperial authorities to the best of its ability. "Even now, part of our church, led by Ktrich Nersisyan, continues to adhere to imperial logic, perhaps because they were formed during the Soviet era," Pashinyan said.
The prime minister believes that some high-ranking clergy, like Ktrich Nersisyan, who received an atheistic upbringing, do not believe in God and treat Him "as a brand that can be sold well at diaspora fairs."
"Ktrich Nersisyan must leave, the sooner the better. He must leave voluntarily, without the people's intervention. But if not, he will leave under pressure from the people," he said.
The problem is that Pashinyan is convinced that "Ktrich Nersisyan does not believe in God, because he is certain He does not exist, nor does he believe in the people, because he is certain he has no power." "But we will convince Ktrich Nersisyan that God exists, and the people have power." "It's a matter of time," Pashinyan said, welcoming those priests who share this agenda and are ready to join it.
