ArmInfo. Opposition member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Mamijanyan appealed to the leaders of the European Union with a request to visit Armenian prisoners of war in Baku. He wrote about this on his Facebook account.
"In connection with the closure of the International Committee of the Red Cross office in Azerbaijan, I today sent an official letter to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kalas, and the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Vasilis Maragos, requesting that the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan visit our prisoners held in Baku. In the letter, I spoke about the dangers our compatriots face in the Baku prison, the staged trials, and the importance of such visits from a humanitarian perspective," Hayk Mamijanyan wrote.
23 Armenians are currently being held in Azerbaijani prisons, including 16 people captured following Azerbaijan's military attack on Artsakh on September 19, 2023. Among the captives are eight former Artsakh officials: former presidents Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, parliament speaker David Ishkhanyan, former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, former commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan, former deputy commander David Manukyan, and former foreign minister David Babayan.
