ArmInfo. The National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic declared September 19 as the Day of Forced Deportation and Rights Claims. This was announced by former Artsakh Minister of Culture Sergey Shahverdyan.
According to him, the corresponding amendments have been made to the law on holidays and memorable dates in the NKR.
"This date was established to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the forced deportation suffered by the people of Artsakh and to affirm the right to return and restore justice. This Day is intended to remind the government of Armenia and the international community of the tragedy of exile and the need to protect cultural and historical heritage, as well as to emphasize the legitimate rights of Artsakh Armenians to their state," Shahverdyan wrote.
Two years ago on this day, September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan, under the pretext of an "anti-terrorist operation," committed another act of aggression against Artsakh. As a result of the enemy aggression, hundreds of Artsakh residents were wounded, and more than 200 deaths were reported, including civilians. On September 20, Artsakh fell. Azerbaijan began the forcible subjugation of the NKR. Furthermore, late on the evening of September 20, it became known that Azerbaijan had deliberately fired on two vehicles of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, killing six people, including the deputy commander of the RMK. On September 22, the process of disbanding the Artsakh Defense Army began. During search operations from September 21 to 24, the NKR Ministry of Internal Affairs discovered the bodies of 105 Artsakh residents, including brutally murdered children and elderly people. Today, Artsakh is completely de-Armenianized; its entire indigenous population of over 100,000 people was forced to flee to Armenia under threat of physical violence. We also note that on September 25, an explosion occurred at a fuel depot near Stepanakert, where a gasoline tanker exploded. At the time of the explosion, a large number of people were present, queuing for gasoline to leave Artsakh amid the latest Azerbaijani aggression. According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, 218 people were killed in the explosion at the fuel depot, 215 of whom have been identified. At least 120 people sustained injuries of varying severity, primarily burns. According to the investigation, the whereabouts of 21 people are currently unknown.
Since the enemy aggression that began in the fall of 2020, which culminated in the complete ethnic cleansing of Artsakh in September 2023, over 150,000 Artsakh residents have become homeless.
This enemy aggression occurred against a backdrop of inaction on the part of the entire civilized international community. On October 15, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev raised the Azerbaijani flag in occupied Stepanakert.
