ArmInfo. The legal team of philanthropist and president of the Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan, has filed cassation appeals against the unlawful criminal prosecution of their client. This is stated in a statement by the lawyers.
"The prosecution of Samvel Karapetyan has nothing to do with the law and legality. Minimum legal guarantees are not observed. In the classic sense, this constitutes political persecution, the available evidence of which is indisputable. The well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist was detained by a clearly unfounded and illegal decision on June 18, 2025, on the basis of an alleged call for the violent seizure of power. On August 15, 2025, Anti-Corruption Court Judge Tigran Davtyan, without any legal basis, extended his unlawful detention for another two months, effectively relying on the investigator's promise to take active steps on the same charge," the statement reads.
It emphasized that the case file revealed a complete lack of reasonable suspicion regarding the alleged money laundering and economic crimes. The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal rejected the prosecutor's appeals.
"In other words, the lack of reasonable suspicion regarding the alleged money laundering and economic crimes has been confirmed once again.
However, in yet another gross violation of personal liberty, the illegal detention was not lifted. Thus, the statement in defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church on June 17 and criticism of the authorities' actions, which grossly violate constitutional and legislative norms fully protected by guarantees of freedom of speech, is the sole reason for Samvel Karapetyan's detention for over 90 days. It is also noteworthy that no investigative or procedural actions have been carried out since August 15, despite, as already mentioned, the courts were promised active action.
The lawyers' team has filed cassation appeals and has also carried out other procedural actions, the results of which will be further reported," the lawyers' statement reads.
