ArmInfo. The now-traditional Gata Festival will be held on September 20 in the village of Khachik in the Vayots Dzor region. The festival aims to boost the socio-economic development of Khachik, improve the residents' standard of living, and promote the village as a tourist destination.
Gata is a traditional Armenian pastry, and thanks to the festival, it is gaining global recognition, contributing to the growth of event and gastronomic tourism in Armenia.
The event will feature an exhibition and sale: visitors will be presented with the harvest of Vayots Dzor and neighboring communities, traditional dishes of the region, sweets, homemade cheese, and many other treats.
One of the main events of the festival will be the cutting of the gata, the largest in the world, which grows larger every year. This year, nine coins will be inserted into the gata, symbolizing the festival's ninth year.
Guests will be able to participate in master classes on making gata and arishta (Armenian homemade noodles), and the entire day will be accompanied by traditional Armenian song and dance.
It's worth noting that last year, the gata baked in the oven was 4.4 meters in diameter.
