ArmInfo. Germany, along with the United States and its European partners, has long been actively supporting peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as stated by Niklas Wagner, Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office, in his speech at a gala reception marking the 34th anniversary of Armenia's independence. The event was organized by the Armenian Embassy in Germany at the TUMO Center in Berlin.
According to him, with the initialing of the peace treaty in Washington on August 8, Armenia and Azerbaijan have turned a new page in their history. "Both countries are ready to resolve complex issues through negotiations and make difficult compromises. We will continue to offer political and humanitarian support to Armenia, together with our EU partners, in the process of normalizing relations with neighboring Azerbaijan. From our own history of reconciliation with our neighbors, we know that lasting peace takes time," he said.
Viktor Yengibaryan, Armenia's Ambassador to Germany, noted that the path to independence was a conscious decision by the Armenian people to live freely, independently, and with dignity. Referring to the agreements reached in Washington, he emphasized that from now on, the logic of peace, not conflict, will prevail throughout the South Caucasus region.
"The agreement on peace and the settlement of interstate relations opens up broad opportunities not only for Armenia, but also for neighboring countries and the European Union," he noted. The ambassador also praised the interstate relations between Armenia and Germany, the high level of political officials from the German government, members of the Bundestag, ambassadors accredited to Germany, diplomats, representatives of city authorities and members of the Armenian community.
