ArmInfo. The unity of the Armenian Apostolic Church is an important pillar for preventing the dangerous process of the church's disintegration. This is what Tatevik Hayrapetyan, an expert on Azerbaijan, writes in his article.
"On July 23, the supreme chief status-writer (RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan - ed.) published a confession post in which he openly stated that his fight is not against the Catholicos or individual clergy, but against the Armenian Apostolic Church itself. Let me remind you that he proposes replacing the Catholicos of all Armenians with "any priest with good moral qualities," then plans to plunge the church and clergy into long, endless and useless scholastic disputes about the text of the "Armenian Canon," and only then plans to hold elections for the Catholicos. In addition, he plans to check the "integrity of all candidates for the post of Catholicos" using methods known only to him). Pashinyan's post of July 23 left no doubt about his true goal: to dissolve the AAC, dealing a decisive blow to one of the most important pillars of Armenian national identity. And the fact that all this is happening at the request of Azerbaijan, I have proven with facts, and not "I want to dwell on this," the political scientist noted.
In this context, Hayrapetyan emphasized, the unity of the Armenian Apostolic Church is an important pillar for preventing the dangerous process of church disintegration. "Even in a small family, issues can arise, but you can't discuss solutions to these problems with someone who openly declares that they want to destroy your family. This, in my opinion, is somewhat illogical. I myself am a follower of the Armenian Apostolic Church, a Christian, and also a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, and I understand that the man who came to power in an atmosphere of love and trust among the people is today busy destroying this state, striking blow after blow at the most ideological pillars: the church, the army, culture, education, history. It hasn't reached the level of language yet, but it will. In this situation, it is difficult to be prudent, vigilant, and conscientious; emotions often take over. You simply need to realize that the destructive "status writer" plays on these emotions; he fears logic and facts; he needs curses, insults, emotions, because that is what his game is built on. This is precisely why he constantly storms the public sphere.
After all, when it comes to a leader driven by an obsession with destroying our state, it is difficult to remain free from emotions. Given all this, I appeal to the spiritual shepherd of Hovhannavank, Father Aram, as well as to our other spiritual fathers and high-ranking clergy: put aside your personalities, your personal grievances for the sake of the church and the state. Be more tolerant and forgiving of each other. With God's help, refrain from rash and erroneous steps and decisions that become a weapon in the hands of those who want to destroy the church. Do not give this hammer into the hands of those who want to destroy the church, which is the centuries-old pillar of our identity. Unity, prudence and restraint of emotions will help: Help us survive this difficult situation. Problems can be resolved in an atmosphere of respect, dialogue and mutual attention. As a public figure, I do my utmost to avoid deepening polarization. I do not label everyone as a "Nikolovites", even if the actions or words of this person, in my opinion, can be assessed as such. Perhaps I am wrong, but I see how the "status writer" clearly outlined the scenario for the destruction of this state. I know that I need this state like air or water. I know that I do not want to leave here. I know that my roots are here. But I also know that in order to prevent this destruction and change the course of events, I need compatriots with whom I can disagree on many issues. I certainly cannot do it alone. Therefore, I try to be more tolerant and balanced in my speeches. This is necessary today to protect Armenia. And for the continuity of our state, it is important that we put our personal ego aside a little. In addition, I would like to say that Hovhannavank is one of my favorite, most peaceful places," the expert noted.
