Doctor of Historical Sciences Arsen Bobokhyan was unanimously re-elected as the director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia at a meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
As reported by the press service of the NAS RA, Arsen Bobokhyan presented the results of the work he did during his leadership in 2022-2025 and the institute's development program. Arsen Bobokhyan noted that work will continue to improve scientific efficiency, prepare for certification in 2026, maintain the status of the institute, and in case of inevitable changes, maintain the institute's position in the profitable sector.
"The main task for the coming years will be to maximally preserve the achievements and traditions of the institute, which have been formed over decades, and then try to develop them, bringing them into line with the standards of modern world science," he noted.
The Institute annually conducts 30 archaeological expeditions, 17 of which are within the framework of international joint programs.
The Institute carries out restoration and museumification of various finds, popularization of the tangible and intangible heritage of Armenia, collection and processing of archaeological, ethnographic and folklore literature and documents, discussion of issues related to Artsakh, study and monitoring of historical and cultural heritage.
The Institute has published over 200 scientific articles, over 30 of which are included in international scientific information databases. Basic funding has been increased, extra-budgetary funds have been increased. Agreements have been signed with the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology named after Milkukho-Maclay Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Belarusian State University, University of Lyon-2, University of California (USA, Los Angeles), International Association for the Study of Mediterranean and Oriental Countries (Rome, Italy), University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China), University of Connecticut (USA), University of Munster.
