ArmInfo. Control over the Zangezur transport hub by virtue of sovereign right should be exclusively exercised by Armenia. Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first President of Armenia, stated this in an interview with ilur.am, touching upon the issue of establishing a route through Syunik for the land connection between the mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.
He pointed out that instead of the Azerbaijani toponym "Zangezur corridor", which raises certain concerns among the active segments of the Armenian population, it is more correct to use the definition "Zangezur transport hub", as in this case control over it should be exercised exclusively by the Armenian side. Touching upon the political and economic goals of other interested states, he noted that Armenia is able, in accordance with the requirements of international law, to guarantee their uninterrupted activities. "In this matter, Armenia, willy-nilly, expects the active cooperation of its strategic partners - Russia, the United States and Iran, despite the obvious disagreements between them. Conflicts between great powers are usually resolved more easily than between small countries, which is explained by the maturity of the great powers," the President explained.
As proof of his words, he cited the following cases: the overcoming the Caribbean (1962) and Damansky (1969) crises, the arms reduction agreements concluded between superpowers in parallel with rivalry and their mutually agreed decisions in the event of proxy wars.
