ArmInfo. Residents of Nor Nork are against the authorities' decision to demolish a playground in order to build another high-rise building. They a protest outside the Mayor's office on September 9.
Well-known activist Artur Chakhoyan also participated in the protest along with ordinary residents. He noted that this project had been rejected in previous meetings of the Council of Elders. Moreover, the district administration had issued a negative opinion regarding the construction of a high-rise building in Nor Nork. Despite these objections, the Council of Elders included this issue on the agenda along with non- negotiable matters. Chakhoyan also pointed out that the territory in question, according to Article 63 of the Land Code of Armenia, is not subject to alienation. The capital's authorities made a decision that violated the rights of the residents of the region and their children. He also reported that the Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into this process to initiate a criminal case. "But no one seems interested in anything," Chakhoyan emphasized.
Ani Khachatryan, a member of the Council of Elders from the Republic Party, came out to the protesters. Addressing the residents of Nor-Nork, she stated: "According to my proposal, the project will be removed from the agenda. The rest, as part of my authority, I promised, will be done." She also noted that those who fall under different political currents in the current situation should not expect any support from their party.
Chakhoyan clarified that the action has no political context or direction. However, the activist expressed his concerns that removing the issue from the agenda does not solve the problem, as in such a case the latter may receive a positive conclusion.
