
ArmInfo. Minister of Environment of Armenia Hambardzum Matevosyan and the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic, Vassilis Maragos, reaffirmed their willingness to expand cooperation in environmental protection on political and practical platforms.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia, the discussion focused on the potential for enhancing cooperation within the framework of the Green Transition, Renewable Energy and Resilience to Climate Change programs. In this regard, the importance of developing atmospheric air monitoring and management systems, as well as implementing joint programs aimed at improving the ecological state of Lake Sevan, was emphasized.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the EU for their continuous support to Armenia over the years in this regard. Matevosyan highlighted the positive impact of the EU funded projects on climate change, air protection, water management and biodiversity conservation in Armenia. They also discussed the preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in 2026. The Minister mentioned that the Armenian side is actively working to develop a substantive agenda for the conference, improve infrastructure, and engage both local and international stakeholders.
Matevosyan assured that the conference is an important platform for presenting Armenia's commitment to preserving global biodiversity. At the end of the meeting, the Minister expressed confidence that the bilateral cooperation between the EU and Armenia will lead to tangible results in the coming years, ultimately enhancing environmental protection and improving the quality of life of the country's citizens.
