ArmInfo. The changes in traffic management and the shift in school opening hours (from 8:30 to 8:15) recently initiated by the Yerevan City Hall have had a positive impact on the level of traffic jams in the city. This was reported by Vazgen Harutyunyan, Head of the Transport Department of the Yerevan Municipality, during a meeting of the City Hall on September 8.
He noted that such conclusions were reached thanks to a study by Yandex, which conducted a comparative analysis of the traffic slowdown coefficient for a certain period in 2024 and 2025 (from August 30 to September 3) on weekdays and weekends. This indicator characterizes the decrease in the speed of traffic flow with an increase in its density. Thus, according to him, the maximum traffic slowdown coefficient decreased by 13.3%, and the average - by 25.7%.
At the same time, Harutyunyan reported that as of September 1, 2025, 953,965 cars were registered in the Republic of Armenia, which is 44,639 more than in 2024, and in Yerevan - 343,220 cars, with an increase of 11,906 over the year.
In this regard, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan expressed confidence that the number of cars will definitely grow, which indicates the need to take appropriate measures to mitigate the impact on traffic.
"Yerevan, first of all, should be convenient for people. For us, the priority is pedestrians, then cyclists, public transport and only at the very end, private cars," the mayor noted. He reported in this vein that large- scale programs developed by Ile-de-France will be implemented in the small center of the capital to expand the sidewalk and increase bicycle paths. At the same time, Avinyan instructed not to delay the launch of additional bus lines in the Arabkir administrative district.
