
ArmInfo. The days of the great Armenian-American writer William Saroyan are starting in Yerevan.
From September 5 to 11, Yerevan will literally be filled with Saroyan's colors, where admirers of the writer's work will have the opportunity to get acquainted with a number of his rare, previously unpublished works, paintings, watch theatrical performances inspired by Saroyan's motifs, take part in the discussion of his new stories, etc.
This initiative is being implemented in Armenia with the support of the US Embassy and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
One of the most interesting events for the public - an exhibition of 100 previously unexhibited paintings by the writer "Saroyan's Colors: Beyond Words" - will take place on September 5, at 11:00, at the Museum of Literature and Art (tickets can be purchased at the entrance). On the same day, at 17:00, an evening dedicated to Saroyan's film and theater legacy will be held at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema (free admission).
On September 6, at 17:00, a presentation of a collection of 22 previously unpublished stories by William Saroyan will be held at the National Art Gallery. The collection was compiled by the director of the Saroyan Foundation, Scott Sedrakian. The Armenian edition of the book is provided by the Antares holding.
On September 7, at 17:00, an awards ceremony for the winners of the William Saroyan literary short story competition will be held at the National Art Gallery during the closing of the Yerevan Book Festival. The winner will receive one of Saroyan's original paintings as a prize (free admission).
On September 8, at 14:00, the National Library will host a discussion on the topic of "Saroyan's Literary and Cultural Influence and Armenian Publishing Houses." On the same day, at 19:00, the G. Malyan Theater will show a theatrical performance based on Saroyan's short story "Trains." Tickets can be purchased at the entrance. On September 9, at 17:00, an evening of readings of Saroyan's first published short stories and their discussion will take place at the American University of Armenia - in the Akyan Hall.
On September 10, at 18:30, the Yerevan office of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) will host a discussion on the topic of "Saroyan's Influence on Literature, Theater, Cinema, and Visual Arts by the New Generation of Armenian Art Critics." On the occasion of Saroyan Days, Saroyan Foundation Director Scott Setrakian noted, "We are thrilled to bring these new, unique materials to Armenia. In addition to presenting these rare works, we are also developing programs to bring Saroyan's bold optimism and timeless vision to a new generation."
