


ArmInfo.The Secretary General welcomed the Washington Declaration byArmenia and Azerbaijan, describing it as a potential turning point. The former President of Switzerland and Secretary General of the Council of Europe made this statement during a weekly briefing to the Ministers' Deputies, the official website of the Council of Europe reported.
According to him, the implementation of the Washington Declaration can transform the region through reconciliation, stability and development. "This peace must be built on our values: democracy, human rights and the rule of law," he emphasized. "The Council of Europe will stand with Armenia and Azerbaijan on the road to peace," he said, without mentioning that totalitarian Azerbaijan does not intend to adhere to the "values" he listed above.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe noted that the post-war European and world order is facing a direct challenge by force. in Ukraine, a dragging and intensifying war, in the South Caucasus long- awaited peace in the making, in the Balkans, tensions on the edge,, in Gaza a human tragedy with no end in sight, and in Tianjin, at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a reminder that Western Europe is no longer the sole center of gravity and that the Caucasus will be pivotal in shaping the balance of power to come. "These crises demand clarity and courage," Berset told the Deputies. "The Council of Europe was created for moments like this."
