The European Union will continue its monitoring mission in Armenia based on its mandate, and there is no need for any changes at this point, as stated by head of the EU delegation to Armenia Vassilis Maragos in an interview with Radio Liberty, in response to the question whether the issue of withdrawing forces from the border had arisen after the initialing of the peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku.
"As far as I know, the people and authorities of Armenia welcome the EU mission in Armenia. It continues to carry out its activities. And if there is a need for any changes, we will discuss this with our member states and, of course, with the Armenian authorities. But at this point, the EU mission will continue its activities in accordance with its mandate," the EU Ambassador said. When asked whether any discussions had taken place since the agreement was initialed in Washington, Maragos stressed that the EU mission to Armenia is in the country at the request of the Armenian authorities and will remain there as long as it is needed. "It is an instrument of peace and settlement. And we fully support it."
