ArmInfo. General education schools in Armenia will now fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. The corresponding draft law was presented by Minister of Education Zhanna Andreasyan during a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports.
She noted that out of 1,343 educational institutions, only 123 are managed by the Ministry. The rest are under the jurisdiction of the Yerevan City Hall and regional administrations. The expediency of such changes, as Andreasyan noted, is dictated by the desire to move to uniform educational standards. "We appreciate the work of the regional administrations and the Yerevan City Hall. They will still be responsible for tasks concerning administrative and economic management," the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia stated. The Minister noted that these changes will come into force in regional schools from September 1, 2026, and in capital schools from September 1, 2027.
