ArmInfo. Tonight, at the age of 93, Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin, the greatest genius of our time, world classic, and People's Artist of the USSR, has passed away, as announced on the Moacow's Bolshoi Theater page in the Telegram channel.
It is worth noting that Rodion Shchedrin had close personal and creative ties with Armenia, a country that held significant importance in his life, with many crossing paths. He had close friendship with many Armenian cultural figures, including director Henrikh Hovhannisyan and writer Vasily Katanyan, who wrote the libretto for Shchedrin's first opera. In 2008, the Yerevan Prospects festival featured several days dedicated to Rodion Shchedrin's music. His last joint trip to Armenia with his wife, Maya Plisetskaya, People's Artist of the USSR and one of the greatest ballerinas, took place in 2008.
