ArmInfo. The first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan considered it his duty to present to Armenian society the part of the book by the German philosopher Immanuel Kant "Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View" dedicated to Armenians. "Many Armenian historians and philosophers certainly know that Immanuel Kant, the renowned German philosopher of the 18th-19th centuries (1724-1804), gave a profound assessment of the Armenian people. This assessment is truly significant that every educated Armenian should know. Therefore, I believe it is my duty to present to our society the part of Kant's book "Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View" that focuses on the Armenians," Ter-Petrosyan wrote on his Facebook page.
In this vein, he presented an excerpt from this book (I. Kant. Works in six volumes, vol. 6, Moscow, 1966, pp. 572-573), regarding the Armenians: " In these Armenians rules a strange trading spirit, one where they are involved in commerce` travelling from the borders of China to the shores of Guinea where Crusoe's shelter lies. This presents a rather intelligent and industrious people with unique roots, a people who can move from North to East and South to West within the old world and find genuine hospitality in whatever region they decide to stop in."
