ArmInfo. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev proved with his speech on August 21 that he has no real intentions for peace and is arming the country to be ready for war with Armenia, as stated by Arman Tatoyan, former ombudsman of Armenia and head of the Tatoyan Foundation. The human rights activist once again highlighted the state level policy of racism against Armenians in Azerbaijan and the planning of an invasion of Armenia.
"In a parallel reality, the Armenian authorities, driven by the obsessive idea of maintaining political power, continue to dull the vigilance of our society. A government spokesman claims that the defense spending will be reduced compared to 2025. Government propagandists distort reality by claiming that Azerbaijan has rejected the program of occupying "Western Azerbaijan", etc. (sovereign Armenia - ed.)," Tatoyan noted.
As evidence that the Azerbaijani authorities do not have peaceful intentions regarding Armenia, the human rights activist cited an excerpt from Aliyev's speech in occupied Karvachar on August 21: "The most modern unmanned aerial vehicles and new artillery systems have been brought to our country. Contracts have been signed for new combat aircraft, and the existing ones have been completely modernized. We must be ready for war at any moment (:) The guarantor of our security is us, the state, the people and our armed forces."
We [talking about Armenians- ed.] did not do to them what they did to us. However, what they did will never be erased from our memory, including the war crimes against the people of Kelbajar, the "Khojaly genocide", and the hostility and cruelty towards our citizens from other regions, These events will never be erased from our memory and should not be erased. I say this as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the country that has emerged victorious from the war, and today, as a participant in the peace process with Armenia, with defeated Armenia. (:) This bloody history should never be erased from our memory, we should not be deceived by sweet words, we must remain vigilant. (:) In other words, we must know who we are fighting against, who our neighbor is. We must never forget our past and be vigilant. Today I say this once again: we declare ourselves a victorious nation. We will not forget this evil, this barbarity." "These are not my wishes or assessments, these are facts that everyone can consider, asking themselves whether these facts relate to a state whose government has peaceful intentions," Tatoyan added.
