ArmInfo. The corridor, the settlement of 300,000 Azerbaijanis in Armenia and the division of the Republic of Armenia are the tasks of the next stage. Ilham Aliyev needs to consolidate the current achievements invulnerably at this stage. Aliyev's main problem is Nikol's legitimacy crisis, and he will do everything to ensure that he overcomes this crisis. If necessary, he will withdraw troops from Armenia's territory, return prisoners, swear never to attack, and even lay asphalt, distribute money and benefits (the main thing is that we do not arm ourselves). Aliyev needs the Armenians to elect Nikol, according to Artur Danielyan, public figure and leader of the "Adekvad" party.
"Yesterday, Pashinyan reiterated the main thesis of the 2018 coup. Just as 7 years ago, his main support is Aliyev. In 2018, he declared that either he would become prime minister, or there would be no prime minister in Armenia. He mad these remarks at a time when Azerbaijani troops were concentrated along the line of contact, waiting for the resolution of the Yerevan processes. If Serzh Sargsyan had displayed persistence and not stepped down, he would have been forced to both resist the Azerbaijani invasion, and quell internal unrest. The day before, on August 21, 2025, Pashinyan reaffirmed that "in the upcoming elections, the citizens of Armenia must choose between peace and no peace>. In essence, this is a repetition of the blackmail that Pashinyan resorted to after seizing power. He states that if he is not elected/re-elected as Prime Minister, Azerbaijan will attack, and Armenia will simply not have a Prime Minister. In other words, either Baku must appoint a Prime Minister in Armenia, or Armenia will not have one. The same thesis, the same treacherous arrogance, the same hatred for his own state and people, which has accumulated in him due to decades of ignoring the Armenian people," Danielyan wrote on his Facebook page.
The public figure believes that there is a very significant and extremely subtle difference between these two episodes, which is the key to saving the situation. If in the first case he blackmailed Serzh Sargsyan, using many misguided people as a lever of pressure, then today he is blackmailing this very people - the Armenian people. To understand the full subtlety of the situation, one must fully understand the realities that force Pashinyan to resort to such blackmail, Danielyan added. According to him, the problem is that this stage of geopolitical restructuring is not eternal. At some point, global players will redistribute spheres of influence and again come to an agreement on certain conditions. The current purely symbolic status of international law will become relevant once more, and this is the day Aliyev is preparing for. He must do everything to ensure that his achievements of recent years are invulnerable from the point of view of international law.
"He is solving this vital issue by forcing the Armenian people to re-elect Pashinyan and thereby confirm that what happened did not contradict the will of the Armenian people. Aliyev knows very well that, according to Article 52 of the Vienna Convention, an international treaty is considered invalid if it was concluded under the threat of force. Today, the United States has entered the fight with China, disregarding international law. "Today, Russia is bogged down in the Ukrainian front. Today, Europeans are forgiving Pashinyan and Aliyev in exchange for a promise to remain on the anti-Russian agenda. Today, Iran is burying its own presidents and generals and licking its wounds. Today, Israel is capable of committing genocide with impunity. The situation may change tomorrow: and it is with this tomorrow in mind that Aliyev demands that the Armenian people voluntarily go to the polls and admit that we willingly surrendered our country, that Nikol is our chosen leader," Danielyan believes.
He notes that, from a purely legal standpoint, the ruling party needs to gain the votes of only half a million Armenians to be re-elected. Danielyan also expresses hope that it is impossible to "force several million Armenians to publicly swear that they like to live hunched over," that "we are not interested in anything except J. Lo." "Our task is to prevent these half a million votes," Artur Danielyan concludes.
