


ArmInfo. Law enforcement agencies of Armenia have stopped the smuggling of drugs into the country.
According to the press service of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of the Republic of Armenia, the National Security Service received information that a citizen was preparing to smuggle drugs into the Republic of Armenia. This information was forwarded to the SRC Anti-Smuggling Department. The employees of the NSS and the SRC jointly carried out the relevant operational and investigative measures.
It turned out that the citizen of the Republic of Armenia G.T. intended to import various types of drugs into the Republic of Armenia through the Bagratashen checkpoint. As a result, the citizen was placed under surveillance. A few days later, the said citizen arrived in a passenger car. The SRC employees conducted a customs inspection of the vehicle. About 900 tablets containing the drug buprenorphine, 340 grams of cocaine and 50 grams of hashish were found in the cache.
It was established that, in addition to the RA citizen, citizens of Georgia arrived in Armenia from Georgia by the said vehicle. Due to reasonable suspicions of drug smuggling, two RA citizens and two Georgian citizens were detained and taken to the Investigative Committee.
Operational investigative measures are ongoing to identify other persons possibly involved in the illegal trafficking of the above-mentioned drugs, as well as to detect packages of drugs already placed in various areas of Yerevan.
