ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is the main factor in the destabilization of Armenia's domestic political life, according to the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
The politician stated that any head of state, unless he is crazy, strives first and foremost for stability in his country.
At the same time, he acknowledged that, of course, there are truly crazy leaders (Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein and others), who, contrary to this imperative, create instability themselves.
"And what is happening in our country? Nikol Pashinyan, especially recently, responds to the fair demands of more than a hundred thousand residents of Artsakh who have found refuge in Armenia with reproaches, insults, and sometimes even rude expressions. The latter, in desperation, knock on hundreds of houses, but, not finding a proper response to their requests and demands, are forced to express their protest through mass demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies, blocking streets, etc.," Ter-Petrosyan noted.
According to the former president of Armenia, a similar situation developed in the 1990s with hundreds of thousands of refugees who found refuge in Armenia after the massacres in Sumgait, Kirovabad and, especially, in Baku.
Ter-Petrosyan noted that his government solved this problem in the following way: the "State Department of Special Programs of the Republic of Armenia" was created, headed by a person with extensive management experience, who enjoys the respect and trust of the public, such as Vladimir Movsisyan, who brilliantly solved the problems of refugees in a short time, earning the latter's sincere appreciation and gratitude. In this vein, he noted that in 2023, Samvel Babayan approached Pashinyan with a proposal to create such a structure, but was refused.
"Thus, by rejecting the idea of creating such a viable structure, Pashinyan and his associates are forced to cover up the ineffectiveness of their steps with aggressive rhetoric, instead of delegating the solution of these pressing problems to a special body staffed by professional officials, whose exclusive duty would be to coordinate actions and satisfy the fair demands of the Armenians of Artsakh. By doing so, he does not actually calm the Armenians of Artsakh, but, on the contrary, further pushes them to continue and intensify the protests, involuntarily deepening instability," Ter-Petrosyan believes.
At the same time, he is sure that this is not Pashinyan's only misfortune. According to the politician, he also committed a similar "unforgivable and dangerous adventure against the Armenian Church, which, however, was interrupted due to strong national resistance." Ter-Petrosyan added that as a result, Pashinyan was forced, at least temporarily, to stop his schismatic campaign against the Church.
"Pashinyan's next provocative step was the unconstitutional initiative to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia company and the illegal punitive action against Samvel Karapetyan, which is also one of the factors undermining the establishment of stability that our country desperately needs.
In short, Pashinyan's reckless style of work is really aimed not at the consolidation that our nation so badly needs, but at its division," Ter-Petrosyan concluded.
