
ArmInfo. On August 12-13, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan visited the Islamic Republic of Iran.
As reported by the press service of the RA MFA, during the visit, Kostanyan held meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi, Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Head of the Strategic Council for Foreign Relations Kamal Kharazi and Advisor on International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati, as well as with Advisor to the President of Iran on Political Affairs Mehdi Sanaei.
During the meetings, Vahan Kostanyan stressed that Armenia values Iran's consistent and public stance on the importance of unconditional respect for territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of borders, confirming that Yerevan takes into account Tehran's vital interests.
The Deputy Minister also highly appreciated Iran's congratulations and support on the initialing of the Agreement "On Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan", as well as the recent progress towards normalizing relations between the two countries and establishing peace in the region.
Referring to the joint declaration signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States in Washington on August 8, Vahan Kostanyan stressed that the process of unblocking the region's economic infrastructure will be carried out with full respect for the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity of the countries. This will be done in accordance with the letter and spirit of the aforementioned declaration. An exchange of views on the stances of Armenia and Iran regarding this process took place in a constructive atmosphere leading to an agreement to maintain a permanent dialogue. During the meetings, the deputy ministers also discussed high-level contacts planned for the near future.
