The successful implementation of the National School Nutrition Program in Armenia have resulted in a significant improvement in student attendance and academic performance in Armenian schools, as reported by the press service of the Russian Embassy in Armenia, while presenting a thematic study conducted by the UN World Food Program (WFP).
According to the study, over 102,000 Armenian schoolchildren are receiving high-quality nutrition thanks to the program. The program has created additional jobs and provided opportunities for school personnel to participate in professional retraining courses. "Within the framework of the program, kitchens and school canteens were also re-equipped, food purchases from local producers were organized, and national program documents in this area were developed and adopted," the embassy added. The study has also pointed out the effective cooperation between Russia, the UN WFP and the Armenian government in the framework of the program. In this regard, the diplomatic mission recalled that Russia has financed 4 stages of the school meals project in Armenia in the amount of 43 million US dollars from 2010 to 2024. "Currently, the 5th stage is underway to develop a sustainable nutrition system in Armenia from 2025 to 2030, with Russia contributing over 25 million US dollars to the UN WFP," the embassy concluded.
