ArmInfo. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) expresses serious concern over the trilateral memorandum signed in Washington, considering it another dangerous (capitulatory) document signed by the Armenian leaders under the pressure of Azerbaijani aggression, unilateral demands and geopolitical processes. This is stated in the party's statement.
Its authors, while highly appreciating the peacekeeping efforts of US President Donald Trump, consider it necessary to record that by signing this agreement, the adventurist leaders of Armenia are threatening the sovereignty of the country and sacrificing the rights of the people of Artsakh, legitimizing the ethnic cleansing and forced eviction carried out by the Baku regime. In particular, the memorandum reflects exclusively the interests of Azerbaijan, Turkey and countries guided by the geopolitical confrontation in the South Caucasus - to the detriment of the vital and security interests of Armenia. The memorandum also ignores the mandatory requirement for the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the occupied territories of Armenia. The document does not establish any obligations to release the illegally detained Armenian prisoners and the military-political leadership of Artsakh held in Baku prisons. Instead of internationally recognized guarantees of the inviolability of borders, security and territorial integrity of Armenia, the agreement contains vague and unaddressed promises. The memorandum lacks provisions on the protection of property, cultural and spiritual heritage of the Artsakh Armenians, as well as their political rights. Armenia's consent to the de facto dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group - the only internationally recognized negotiating format - is an unacceptable deviation from the known principles of conflict resolution and the result of obvious pressure from Azerbaijan, which serves as an international justification for the forced eviction of the Artsakh Armenians.
"The unilateral blow dealt by the Pashinyan regime to the Armenian-Russian allied relations without creating realistic alternatives violates the military-political balance and is fraught with new threats and challenges for the state. As is the case with other important documents, the content of this memorandum was hidden from the citizens of Armenia and the National Assembly. Decisions of vital importance cannot be made by a regime deprived of legitimacy within the country. It is obvious that the current events are a consequence of the morbid, anti-state and anti-national obsession of the ruling regime and its leader - to retain power at all costs, even at the cost of national and state interests, through geopolitical adventure. Under these conditions, no document regulating Armenian- Azerbaijani relations, including the Agreement "On Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan", can contribute to the establishment of a fair and sustainable peace. On the contrary, it will seriously limit Armenia's ability to ensure its security and sovereignty, tying the hands of the country's foreign policy," the statement said.
It emphasizes that, understanding the challenges arising from this process and assessing the necessary actions in the current situation, the RPA demands to prioritize the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners and illegally detained persons in Azerbaijan, to ensure the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the occupied territories of Armenia without any preconditions, without linking this process to the unclear issue of border demarcation, to record the protection of the right of return of the Artsakh Armenians as an integral part of sustainable peace and stability in the region, to determine legally binding international security guarantees and realistic mechanisms for the protection of the territorial integrity of Armenia, as well as the peaceful development and vital interests of its citizens, to abandon the requirement that implies the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. "Considering all of the above, the Republican Party of Armenia rejects the political and diplomatic course of the current leaders, aimed at unilateral concessions and further trampling of Armenian interests. Real peace and long-term stability in the region require solutions based on justice, balance and acceptability for both sides - and not on coercion and geopolitical deals imposed from the outside. Recognizing peacefulness and the principle of sovereign opening of communication routes as the basis of Armenia's foreign policy, the RPA cannot accept the proclamation of an unfair, imposed and completely unguaranteed peace as a real solution to the current situation, especially in the context of the ongoing trampling of the vital rights of the Armenian people, their territorial integrity and dignity corresponding to a sovereign state," the RPA statement emphasizes.
Recall that on August 9, a trilateral meeting of the leaders of the United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan was held in the White House. During this meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, US President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration aimed at resolving the conflict between Yerevan and Baku.
