ArmInfo. The latest concessions imposed on Armenia by the statement on the trilateral meeting in Washington on August 8, 2025, as well as the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, are unacceptable and reprehensible. This statement was made by the opposition faction "Armenia" of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, touching upon the obligations assumed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan within the framework of these agreements.
In particular, as noted in the statement, this is an attempt to legitimize ethnic cleansing and the elimination of the Armenian trace in Artsakh, to justify the capture of Armenian prisoners of war and the illegal trials carried out against them, the exclusion of the Artsakh problem from the international agenda by dissolving the OSCE Minsk Group and the occupation of the sovereign territories of Armenia.
"These agreements not only do not eliminate hostile actions against Armenia, but also provide Azerbaijan with unimpeded communication on the sovereign territory of the Republic, creating additional conditions for limiting the country's sovereignty and aggression," the statement emphasizes. In this vein, the opposition faction drew attention to the fact that the signed documents lack criteria for justice in resolving international conflicts, as well as international obligations to ensure and protect freedoms and fundamental human rights. In particular, Articles 8-9 and Article 15 of the agreement contain wording that will obviously be used against all Armenians who participated in the Artsakh liberation struggle. In addition, as the faction noted, they disguise Azerbaijan's crimes and deprive the Armenian side of the opportunity to use international instruments to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
In this regard, the "Armenia" faction emphasized the need to strengthen Armenia's internal and external security systems, national and state institutions, as well as attract external allies.
"Without implementing the above issues, the documents presented exclusively testify to the great damage inflicted on the Armenian side. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, once again, abusing his powers established by the Constitution and laws, is trying to mislead the Armenian people with false propaganda of peace in order to ensure the reproduction of his regime," the political force noted. At the same time, the opposition faction is confident that it is possible to break out of the vicious chain of defeats imposed on the people, restore national dignity and build a strong statehood if the reproduction of the ruling regime in the country is excluded.
On August 9, a trilateral meeting of the leaders of the United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan was held in the White House. During this meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, US President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration aimed at resolving the conflict between Yerevan and Baku.
"Meanwhile, even the provisions formally proclaimed in the signed documents on respect for the principle of territorial integrity, mutual will to establish peace, non-interference in each other's internal affairs do not provide for any international guarantees. They are based solely on the desire of Azerbaijan. It is obvious that real regional peace and long-term stability based on the free self-determination of nations require a coincidence of interests, a real balance of power, and the presence of international guarantees," the faction noted.
