ArmInfo. Despite the decision of the Criminal Court of Appeal on the illegality of the arrest of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, most likely, in the current situation, a motion will be filed to extend it, which must be considered by the court. This was reported by the press service of the Council for the Protection of Karapetyan's Rights.
Meanwhile, as the Council noted, in fact, the court's decision recorded one of the main violations of the law that occurred before the decision to arrest the businessman for a period of two months. "Only one judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal could agree with the legality of Samvel Karapetyan's arrest, and this was the judge with the lowest rating, Armen Danielyan. Other judges of the Criminal Court of Appeal have already recorded that both the arrest and the search of Samvel Karapetyan were illegal," the statement says.
However, as noted by the Council for the Protection of Samvel Karapetyan's Rights, despite this, the businessman has been in custody for 53 days already, and his arrest has not yet been lifted.
Recall that earlier, on August 11, the Court of Appeal of Armenia found the detention of the famous Armenian and Russian businessman, head of the Tashir Group of Companies Samvel Karapetyan unlawful.
Karapetyan was detained on the night of June 18 in Yerevan by law enforcement agencies of Armenia after he expressed support for the Armenian Apostolic Church. In response to this, open threats followed from the Prime Minister. The day before, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction arrested the president of the Tashir Group of Companies Samvel Karapetyan for a period of two months. He is accused of publicly calling for the seizure of power in the country. Karapetyan does not admit guilt.
