ArmInfo. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) expresses its concern that the possible statements or agreements in Washington do not address key priorities, in particular, the right of Artsakh Armenians to return to their homes, the release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages by Azerbaijan, the international protection of Armenian Christian holy sites, and the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia.
As reported by the press service of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the committee had such concerns as according to reliable sources, a statement or memorandum of understanding may be issued following the talks under the auspices of the White House on August 7-8, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Hay Dat Washington Office, believes that "Any agreement that considers natural and then legitimizes the forced displacement of 150,000 Artsakh Armenians is not progress. It is a departure from peace, a step towards new Azerbaijani aggression. Real peace must be built on the realization of the right of return, the release of hostages, the protection of Christian holy sites, the withdrawal of foreign troops from Armenia, and the principle of accountability for war crimes. If Washington wants to present itself as a peace broker in the South Caucasus, it must ensure that this peace process is real, based on accountability, not on threats imposed on Armenia. Armenian Americans are resolutely opposed to any agreement that replaces justice with accommodation or puts the lives of Armenians at risk."
The Armenian National Committee of America calls on all participants in the planned White House summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan to strive for a principled and lasting peace based on justice, accountability, the return of forcibly displaced Armenians, and the preservation of Armenia's security and sovereignty.
